A circular has been issued preventing teachers at schools in the Western Province from conducting paid tuition classes to students from their respective schools, whether during school hours, after school, or on weekends and public holidays.

The circular, signed by Western Province Secretary of Education K.A.D.R. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, was forwarded to the Director of Education, Regional Directors, Divisional Directors of Education, and all principals in the province.

The circular mandates that all teachers be informed of this. The Education Secretary emphasised that disciplinary action will be taken against teachers who violate these regulations.

This prohibition was first imposed in the Sabaragamuwa Province and later adopted by the Central Province as well.
