  • Key initiative facilitated by Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand recently facilitated the visit of a 21-member production team from Thai AirAsia, including the two renowned Thai YouTubers, Kongkapan Sangsuriya and Saksit Tangthong to Sri Lanka to promote Buddhist pilgrimage tourism. This initiative aims to highlight the deep historical and religious connections between Sri Lanka and Thailand, while showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage to Thai travellers.

The program, broadcast on the Thai Channel, Channel 7 HD TV and YouTube channels, reached a wide audience in Thailand, educating viewers on the shared Buddhist ties between the two countries. This is expected to further strengthen religious tourism and attract more Thai visitors to Sri Lanka’s revered Buddhist sites.

During their visit, the team explored several iconic religious and cultural landmarks in Sri Lanka, including Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya, Mihinthale, Dambulla Cave Temple, Alu Viharaya in Matale, the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and Dipaduttamarama Raja Maha Viharaya.

Besides emphasising the importance of religious tourism, this initiative helps forge deeper connections between the peoples of Thailand and Sri Lanka through their shared Buddhist heritage.
