The Colombo Plan Secretariat donates to Itukama COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund

The national emergency created by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has led to unprecedented crisis in the economies and the health sectors in the world.  Millions of lives have been affected as a result.  The Colombo Plan stands united with its twenty-seven Member States in these challenging and difficult times, and affirms its solidarity and commitment to them in working together and endeavouring to progress with the scheduled programs for the year 2020.  The Colombo Plan Secretariat holds utmost in its heart the wellness of all the Member States as a primary concern and expresses its wishes for the well-being of all.

In solidarity with the Government of Sri Lanka and with the President of Sri Lanka’s call to support and strengthen activities aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), as well as related social welfare programs, the Secretary General of the Colombo Plan Ambassador Dr. Phan Kieu took the initiative to contribute $ 10,000 from the Secretariat as an outpouring support for the cause. Sri Lanka is the host Government for the Colombo Plan Secretariat and one of the important Founder Members of the organisation. 

For nearly sixty nine years the Colombo Plan has been actively participating in the development activities and capacity building programs of its 27 member countries and continues to do so.  It is one of the oldest and renowned inter-governmental organisations in the world.
