Three new COVID-19 cases identified

  • Total number of cases rises to 3,274
  • Includes over 1,350 foreign arrivals
  • 22 persons discharged from various hospitals

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the island rose to 3,274 with the identification of three new cases yesterday.

The Epidemiology Unit states that, of the total cases, 1,304 are Sri Lankan returnees and 54 are foreigners. The local cases include 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts, and 650 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.

There are currently 218 persons receiving medical treatment for COVID-19, including 77 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and 76 at the Welikanda Base Hospital. Meanwhile, 44 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are being monitored at various 

hospitals.

The Epidemiology Unit added that 22 persons, including one foreigner, were discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 am yesterday, having recovered from COVID-19. This includes 13 persons from the Welikanda Base Hospital, seven from the NIID, and one each from the Iranawila Hospital and the Colombo East Base Hospital.

The total number of recoveries has thus risen to 3,043 and the Health Promotion Bureau calculates the country’s recovery rate as 93.03%. With 13 COVID-19-related deaths recorded in the island, the fatality rate is 0.4%.

The Sri Lanka Army added that 608 persons left quarantine centres yesterday having completed the process. A total of 41,861 persons have left quarantine centres to date, while 6,270 persons are currently undergoing the process at 59 centres.
