Tokyo Super awarded lion’s share of Fly Ash tenders

Tokyo Super Cement Co. Lanka has been awarded the lion’s share of the tender to purchase the residual Fly Ash disposed by the Norochcholai coal power plant, it was revealed at the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday. 

Consequently, tenders to purchase the separate qualities of Fly Ash have been awarded to Tokyo Cement Company Lanka Plc, Tokyo Super Cement Lanka Ltd, Tokyo Eastern Cement Company Ltd, SIAM City Cement Lanka Ltd, Sigiri Distributors, High Tech Cement Lanka Ltd, Ceylon and Foreign Traders Plc and Ramco Roofing Lanka Ltd. 

According to the Cabinet paper, the bidders were selected under three criteria, namely Quality No. 1 Fly Ash – over 1,000 MT, Quality No. 1 Fly Ash – 250 MT-1000 MT and Quality No. 2 Fly Ash – above 250 MT.  Tokyo Cement Company Lanka Plc was awarded the tender to purchase Quality 1 90% Fly Ash up to 129,600 MT per annum at a daily rate of 360 MT at a unit price of Rs. 3,500 per tonne. 

SIAM City Cement Lanka Ltd. received the tender to purchase Quality 1 90% Fly Ash at a daily rate of 246.6 MT up to 90,000 MT annually at a unit price of Rs. 3,750 per tonne while Tokyo Super Cement Lanka Ltd. was awarded the tender to procure Quality 1 90% Fly Ash at a daily rate of 27.5 MT up to 9,900 MT annually at a unit price of Rs. 3,000 per tonne. 

The Cabinet further said that with regard to Quality 1 10% Fly Ash, Sigiri Distributors was awarded the tender to purchase 10,800 MT annually at a monthly rate of 900 MT at a unit price of Rs. 1,500 per tonne and High Tech Cement Lanka Ltd. to purchase 900 MT monthly up to 10,800 MT at a price of Rs 1,200 per tonne.  Ceylon and Foreign Traders too was awarded the tender to purchase Quality 1 10% Fly Ash at a monthly rate of 300 MT up to 3,600 MT annually at a unit price of Rs. 2,552 per tonne while Ramco Roofing Lanka Ltd. received the tender to purchase Quality 1 10% Fly Ash up to 300 MT per annum at a monthly rate of 25 MT priced at Rs. 700 per tonne. 

Meanwhile, tenders for Quality 2 Fly Ash were given to Tokyo Super Cement Co. Lanka Ltd. and Tokyo Eastern Cement Company Ltd. at a monthly rate of 9,375 MT up to 112,500 MT annually at a unit price of Rs. 200 per tonne.

The coal requirement for the Norochcholai power plant annually is 2.4 million MT, generating 255,000 MT of ash for the same period. The residual ash is used both by the cement and asbestos industries.
