Seven persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the island to 2,900.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 966 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad have tested positive so far, as have 34 foreigners. In addition to the imported cases, 950 Navy person and their close contacts have also tested positive.
A total of 630 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre have also tested positive. According to the Sri Lanka Army, this includes 508 detainees undergoing rehabilitation, 67 staff members, five guest staffers, 48 family members and close associates, and one contact of the person identified at the Welikada Prison.
A total of 145 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre are currently undergoing treatment, the Sri Lanka Army added. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 208 persons are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals, including 102 at the Kandakadu Treatment Centre, 57 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 19 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 18 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, and ten at the Iranawila Hospital.
In addition to this, 65 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are currently being monitored at various hospitals in the island, including 13 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, 10 at the Chilaw General Hospital, and ten at the Welisara Chest Hospital.
The Sri Lanka Army add that 484 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre have recovered from COVID-19 so far. The total COVID-19 recoveries in the island has risen to 2,676, including six persons discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday. This includes four persons discharged from the Welikanda Base Hospital, one from the NIID, and one from the Iranawila Hospital.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, the country’s recovery rate is 92.44%, while its fatality rate is 0.38%. Eleven COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the country so far.
The Health Promotion Bureau adds that 189,518 PCR tests have been carried out in the island thus far, including 1,561 tests on Sunday. In addition to this, flights carrying 36 persons from Qatar, 29 persons from Chennai, and three persons from Narita arrived in the island yesterday. All arrivals have been directed to quarantine centres in the country.
The Sri Lanka Army states that 5,333 persons are currently undergoing quarantine in 46 quarantine centres in the island, while 30,585 persons have completed the quarantine process. This includes 307 persons who left quarantine centres yesterday, of which, 120 left the Periyakadu Quarantine Centre, 90 left the 59 Division Quarantine Centre, 85 left the Bogoda Quarantine Centre, six left the Nipuna Boossa Quarantine Centre, and six left the Oluvil Quarantine Centre.
