The Dollar Academy Pipers from Scotland are currently in Sri Lanka.

The 10-piece band is in Colombo ahead of the National Day of Scotland, St. Andrew’s Day, celebrated each year on 30 November.

The pipers will be performing at a series of events in Colombo. They performed at St Andrew’s Ball yesterday and are slated to play at St Andrew’s Scots Kirk on Galle Road tomorrow.

The Dollar Academy pipe band has won the Scottish Championship for 13 consecutive years and competes in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association at the juvenile and novice grade and in 2014 were crowned World Champions.

St. Andrew is Scotland’s patron saint and on 30 November the British High Commission celebrates St. Andrew’s Day with missions across the world.

Bagpipes have been around for at least 4.000 years and are found in many forms throughout the world. The bagpipes are regarded now as the national instrument of Scotland, ranking along with the kilt as part of the proud heritage of Scotland.
