On the instructions of the Transport Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, the National Transport Commission (NTC) has taken steps to launch a special office transport service to the five major cities of Galle, Kandy, Ratnapura, Kurunegala and Chilaw at 4:15 p.m. near the Shalika Stadium in Narahenpita using buses with route permits.
Minister Wanniarachchi inaugurated the office transport service on Monday.
With the control of the COVID pandemic and the removal of provincial travel restrictions, steps have been taken to launch these office transport services for the convenience of public and private sector employees coming to work.
Due to the large number of public and private sector departments and institutions located in Narahenpita, it has been decided to start this office transport service from Narahenpita as a first step as a large number of people visit Narahenpita daily.
As a second step, the National Transport Commission (NTC) has decided plans to launch similar office bus services in Battaramulla and Pelawatta, where Government departments and private institutions are located, to several major cities in the near future.
The Ministry of Transport emphasised that these transport services would be operated in accordance with all COVID safety guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health. National Transport Commission Chairman Shashi Welgama was also present at the inauguration of the service.
