Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday extended till 12 December the overseas travel ban enforced on the Swiss Embassy employee who claims she was forcibly detained and threatened by a group of unidentified persons on 25 November. The travel ban extension was given when the case was taken up yesterday, where Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials informed Court they had recorded a nine-hour statement from the employee on Sunday.
The Magistrate also instructed the CID to submit a medical report on the alleged victim on 12 December, after Court was informed that she had refused to submit to an examination by a Judicial Medical officer (JMO), as there were no female doctors.
On Sunday the alleged victim presented herself at the CID, accompanied by two Swiss Embassy officials and two lawyers.
The alleged victim, the assistant to the Immigration officer at the Embassy, had reported to the Embassy that she was forced into a vehicle and seriously threated by a group of unidentified persons on the evening of 25 November, but no formal complaint was lodged with the Police, nor did she make herself available to enable the investigators to record a statement until yesterday.
Police said last week that initial investigations conducted using CCTV footage, phone records, etc., did not tally with the sequence of events as reported by the alleged victim to the Embassy, which was then relayed to the Police.
