Health authorities yesterday confirmed two COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 death toll to 215.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 71-year-old individual from Ratnapura passed away at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital on 2 January. The individual died of a respiratory tract infection due to COVID-19 and an exacerbation of a lung infection.
The second death was also from Ratnapura and health authorities stated that the 86-year-old man died at home on 1 January. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia and epilepsy.
