Two Police officers interdicted over failure to prevent murder at Court premises

Two Sergeants who were on security duty at the Kegalle Court when a woman was brutally murdered in Courts premises have been suspended.

The Police officers were suspended for failing to perform their duties properly.

A mother of two in the Kegalle area died on Tuesday after being assaulted by her husband with a sharp instrument within the court premises. The victim was a 36 year old resident of Meeduma, Yatagama, Rambukkana. She had been stabbed by her husband when she was in Court at the Kegalle Magistrate's Court.

The tragedy had taken place when the husband and wife had come to the Kegalle Magistrate's Court last morning to settle a family dispute between them, the Police said.

Police have arrested the suspect, 40-year-old Rajapakse Pedige Jagath Pradeep Gunasena. The deceased woman and the suspect were parents to two boys aged 5 and 11. Kegalle Police Headquarters are conducting further investigations.
