Two Sri Lankan projects to receive over $ 2.4 m from UN Peace-building Fund

The United Nations Peace-building Fund through its Gender and Youth Promotion Initiative has allocated over US$ 2.4 million for two projects in Sri Lanka that will promote gender-responsive and youth-inclusive peace-building.

The UN Peace Building Fund (UNPBF) has released US$ 2 million to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the World Food Program (WFP) to implement the project titled “Empower: Building peace through the economic empowerment of women in Northern Sri Lanka.”

A project proposed by the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka is the recipient of the second award. The project “Empowering and mentoring youth volunteers to engage with transitional justice to promote reconciliation” will receive US$ 454,000.

The UN Peace Building Fund Gender and Youth Promotion Initiative (GYPI) 2017 has allocated a total of $27.5 million for 17 projects in 13 countries.
