Two injured in first election-related shooting

  • Incident arose following argument between two groups in Ginigathhena area

At least two people were left injured after being shot in Polpitiya, Ginigathhena last night, in the first instance of gun violence linked to the forthcoming Presidential Election.

A member of MP S.B Dissanayake’s security detail is alleged to have opened fire following an argument, reports from the area stated. The victims sustained minor injuries, the reports revealed. Nearly 3,000 election violations have been reported since 8 October, but this is the first shooting reported since nominations were handed over.
