Türkiye extends unwavering support for SL’s economic revival efforts

Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Sri Lanka, Semih Lütfü Turgut, yesterday called on Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.

During the discussion, Ambassador Turgut reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving its economic development goals while further strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

He also praised the Government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” program and expressed Türkiye’s willingness to assist in the country’s digitisation efforts and poverty alleviation programs aimed at improving rural livelihoods.

Furthermore, the Ambassador emphasised Türkiye’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s development initiatives in education, healthcare, and agriculture.

He noted that several agreements related to these sectors are expected to be signed in the near future.

Ambassador Turgut also announced an increase in the scholarship quota for Sri Lankan students studying in Türkiye, raising it from 15 to 25.

Additionally, he extended an official invitation to President Anura Kumara Disanayake for an official visit to Türkiye in April this year.

First Secretary, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Colombo, Merve Gösde Otlu, was also present at the meeting.
