The UK’s Indo-Pacific Minister Catherine West yesterday called on Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
The meeting highlighted the commitment to fostering strong bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, while addressing critical national issues collaboratively, including economic, social, and political challenges.
The meeting was attended by Minister West’s Private Secretary, British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick, and Second Secretary Alexander Smith.
Representing the main Opposition party – the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) – MPs Harshana Rajakaruna, Mujibur Rahman, and Kavinda Jayawardena, and former MP Eran Wickramaratne, were present at the meeting.
During the discussions, Premadasa emphasised the need for international support to address ongoing economic recovery efforts.
He also requested assistance in promoting tourism to attract more visitors from the United Kingdom, highlighting its potential to support economic recovery.
