The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-André Franche yesterday met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
During the meeting, the UN Resident Coordinator conveyed the warm greetings of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to President Dissanayake.
Marc-André Franche praised the President’s manifesto and commended the President’s ethical nature of the political campaign. The Resident Coordinator acknowledged that the coming period will be challenging as public expectations are high, but assured the UN’s support for Sri Lanka’s IMF program and the Government’s poverty eradication efforts.
The Coordinator also lauded the anti-corruption initiative outlined in the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s manifesto, noting that it offers hope for a new beginning. He assured technical and financial support from the UN to aid in these efforts.
Furthermore, the unique initiative for national peace among communities was highly praised, with the UN acknowledging the President’s dedication to fostering trust among diverse groups. The UN pledged its full backing for this initiative to promote lasting peace in the country.
