UNP Leader moots news measures to better manage pandemic expenses

UNP Leader and MP Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday mooted in Parliament the creation of a special expenditure head for COVID-19 related expenditure.

“It is better we create a special expenditure head as it is an essential need,” Wickremesinghe said. He suggested that the Committee on Public Finance could monitor the expenditure.

UNP Leader also proposed setting up of temporary wards in all hospitals to accommodate the rising COVID-19 cases. 

“The security forces can engage in constructing temporary wards with Cajans and shrink sheets. This is an essential need,” he added. “I also propose that the Government goes for emergency procurement rather than tender procedures when purchasing of COVID related equipment as it is an urgent need,” Wickremesinghe added.
