The Working Committee of the United National Party (UNP) will meet today to discuss stakeholder agreements of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) alliance, which is due to be launched on 2 March.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to clear any stakeholder agreements of the alliance through the party’s Working Committee. The request came in the wake of the Tamil Progressive Alliance pledging support to the SJB alliance on Wednesday.
Previously, the Working Committee had decided not to use the elephant symbol for the SJB alliance, in favour of the swan symbol.
The SJB has invited many progressive and like-minded political parties and civil groups to join the alliance, said SJB General Secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara. The alliance plans to sign a MoU with all stakeholders at a launch scheduled for 2 March at the Nelum Pokuna theatre.
Speaking to the press recently, SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the alliance was confident in forming a Government post General Elections, and planned to work with the President for the betterment of the country. “We will move ahead without any personal agendas and will function on the ‘Sri Lanka First’ policy.” he said.
