The United National Party (UNP) is to consider a proposal made by its women’s wing, Lak Vanitha, to issue 25% of the parties’ nominations at the upcoming Provincial Council elections to female candidates.
The proposal was tabled at the Lak Vanitha national convention by Chairperson Shanthini Kongahage and will be taken up for consideration at the next UNP working committee meeting, a senior UNP source said.
“The UNP remains committed to the increased representation of women in politics,” the UNP said in a press release yesterday.
