US officials convey condolences to Sri Lanka and families of victims

Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security and Transnational Affairs, Thomas Vajda, accompanied by Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, David Ranz and International Relations Officer for Sri Lanka, Jason Evans met Chargé d’Affaires Sarath Dissanayake at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC on 25 April 2019 and expressed their profound condolences to the Government of Sri Lanka for the terror attacks on 21 April 2019 in Sri Lanka that resulted in the death of over 250 and injuries to hundreds more.  

The US officials also expressed the US’s support and assistance to Sri Lanka in the investigations being conducted in to the attacks to bring the perpetrators to justice. The officials signed the condolence book at the Embassy in memory of the victims of the tragedy.

On behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, Chargé Dissanayake thanked the US officials for the tremendous outpouring of sympathy and strong support received from US leaders, members of the Congress, officials and the general public in the wake of the unprecedented tragedy on 21 April 2019.
