Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga who was arrested yesterday on allegations of assault was remanded till 17 January after being produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.
According to the Police, Weeratunga was arrested by the Mirihana Police based on a complaint received on Thursday on allegations of assaulting a neighbour. Based on initial investigations conducted into the complaint, Weeratunga was taken into Police custody yesterday morning and was later remanded till 17 January.
