Udayanga released on bail

Sri Lanka’s one-time Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga was released on cash bail of Rs. 2.5 million and two sureties of Rs. 50 million each by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday. 

He was given time till 24 April to fulfill the bail conditions. Weeratunga was not present in Court but was represented by his lawyer.

He is facing charges of money laundering and misappropriation over his involvement in the 2006 purchase of four MiG 27 aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
