Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga was further remanded till 26 February by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday.

Weeratunga, who was brought back to the country from Dubai last Friday after absconding arrest for more than three years, was taken to the CID where a statement was recorded from him, following which he was produced in court and initially remanded till 17 February.

He was moved from Welikada prison to the Prison Hospital on Saturday after he had complained of a chest pain. He was produced before the Magistrate yesterday and re-remanded.

Weeratunga is facing charges of money laundering and misappropriation over his alleged involvement in the 2006 purchase of four MiG 27 aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force, arrived in the country last morning.
