Vaccination of the 20 to 29 age category will begin today in the Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha and Galle Districts for residents.
According to the Department of Government Information, vaccination will be carried out from existing centres. However, in Colombo, vaccination will also be carried out from Vihara Maha Devi Park, Diyatha Uyana, Panagoda Army Camp, and Army Medical Corps Headquarters Werahera.
Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said vaccination in Colombo will also take place at Sugathadasa Stadium, Jinthupitiya MOH, Arnold Rathnayake Mawatha Community Hall, Campbell Park, Shalika Grounds, and Roxy Gardens.
“Residents of East and West Colombo can also use e-channelling starting [tomorrow], so for no reason should there be congestion,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka yesterday received four million doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, raising the total number of Sinopharm doses received to 22 million. This is the most used COVID-19 vaccine in the country. A total of 10,017,747 persons have received the first dose of the vaccine and 7,318,575 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Saturday, 25,147 persons received the first dose and 117,038 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm.
Persons vaccinated on Saturday also include 21,671 persons who received the first dose of Pfizer and 1,476 persons who received the second dose of Pfizer. A total of 354,813 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 191,490 persons have received the second dose of Pfizer. The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,399,082 persons and the second dose to 887,295 persons. This includes persons vaccinated on Saturday, when 2,774 persons received the first dose and 651 persons received the second dose.
On Saturday, 171 persons received the first dose of Moderna and 6,628 persons received the second dose of Moderna. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to a total of 772,340 persons and the second dose has been administered to 702,790 persons.
The second dose of Sputnik V was administered to 4,506 persons on Saturday, raising the total number of persons to receive the second dose of the vaccine to 37,737 persons. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 159,088 persons.
A total of 180,062 persons were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Saturday, raising the number of persons to have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to 12,703,070 persons and the second dose to 9,137,887 persons.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 79.5% of the country’s population over the age of 30 has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
