A program to vaccinate all school teachers in the country will launch on 12 July, the Education Ministry yesterday stated.
According to the Ministry’s statement, teachers, principals, and non-academic staff from the country’s school system of 10,155 schools will receive the COVID-19 vaccine in an effort to fast-track the reopening of schools.
The first step towards this is to reopen schools with less than 100 students, schools that receive Government assistance, and Piriven schools.
Meanwhile, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena yesterday said discussions were being held between the Health ministry, Education Ministry, and paediatricians. He added that decisions made on age groups to be vaccinated will be announced in due course.
