Internationally acclaimed film director and screenwriter Dharmasena Pathiraja has passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kandy. He was 74.
Born on 28 March 1943, Dharmasena Pathiraja obtained his primary education at Dharmaraja College, Kandy. He later graduated from the University of Peradeniya and obtained a PhD. from the University of Monash in Australia.
In 1970, he entered the film industry, creating a short film called ‘Sathuro’ and began his career in film production in Sri Lanka in 1974 creating ‘Ahas Gauwa’.
Eya Dan Loku Lamayek in 1975, Sri Lanka’s entry at the 9th Moscow International Film Festival, and1978’s Bambaru Avith, are widely considered Pathiraja’s masterpieces.
Funeral arrangements will be held in Kandy.
