Former Speaker W.J.M Lokubandara

Former Speaker of Sri Lanka Parliament W.J.M. Lokubandara has passed away yesterday due to complications from COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda. He was 79 at the time of his death.
The former Speaker was admitted to the intensive care unit of the IDH hospital after contracting COVID-19 on 6 February.
W.J.M. Lokubandara was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2004-2010 and the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province from 2010-2015. He held several ministerial portfolios before he was appointed as the Speaker.
