Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals State Minister Channa Jayasumana, WHO Representative to Sri Lanka Dr. Razia Pendse and other officials at the discussion yesterday
The World Health Organization (WHO) is in agreement to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to 20% of Sri Lanka’s population, the Health Ministry yesterday stated.
According to the Ministry’s statement, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday met with Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals State Minister Channa Jayasumana and WHO Representative to Sri Lanka Dr. Razia Pendse to discuss the use of a vaccine to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
It was at this discussion that Dr. Pendse assured local health authorities that WHO was prepared to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to 20% of the country’s population.
A special committee was appointed by Wanniarachchi to oversee the compilation of funds, selection of groups who will receive the vaccine, management of resources, and data collection.
Participants of the discussion include Health Secretary Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, and Additional Secretaries of the Health Ministry.
