‘Wele Suda’ sentenced to eight years rigorous imprisonment

Court orders to confiscate illegally acquired funds, gold jewellery, properties earned illegally through drug trafficking

The Colombo High Court yesterday announced eight years rigorous imprisonment for the notorious drug kingpin Samantha Kumara, alias ‘Wele Suda’, for possessing illegal assets through drug dealings.

His wife and another woman were also found guilty for the same offence under the Money Laundering Act, and were also sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment each.

Following a lengthy trial process, Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige delivered the verdict and also imposed fines on convicts.

The Court had also ordered authorities to confiscate the illegally acquired funds, gold jewellery, and properties earned illegally through drug trafficking.
