A woman was imposed life imprisonment for peddling heroin at Rajagiriya on 2012 by the Colombo High Court yesterday. High Court Judge Sashi Mahendran imposed life imprisonment on the Accused, Patric David Udesh Mary, aged 35 years and a mother of two, for trafficking and peddling 6.33 g heroin at Obeysekerapura, Rajagiriya on 1 October 2012.

The Judge imposed the sentence on the Accused after observing that the prosecution’s case against the Accused was proven beyond reasonable doubt. At the conclusion of the trial, before pronouncing judgment, Defense Counsel Ranjith Heelage pleaded Court to impose sentencing leniently, as the convict was a mother of two infant children.

Senior State Counsel Thushari Jayaratna submitted to Court that the Narcotics sleuths who conducted the raid had recovered a large sum of money and a quantity of 3.05 g heroin which was to be peddled by the convict. She emphasised the fact that the convict was a habitual heroin trafficker and peddler.
