Acting principals of government schools vow to commence a fast unto death from October 06 demanding the government to grant them permanent appointments.

The union of the acting principals says that it will summon the parents of the students at the schools they act as principals for an agitation.

Around 4,000 acting principals demand permanent appointments and earlier they vowed to resign from posts.

A cabinet proposal to grant permanent appointments to acting principals stuck as the Public Services Commission rejected to proceed with it.

The teachers’ unions protest the move on the basis the qualified principals must be given appointments. They further protest appointing acting principals to schools and urge to streamline recruitment process of the principals.

Principles in national schools are appointed by the Public Service Commission from officers in the General Cadre in Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service and Principles in Grade 1 and 2-1 in Sri Lanka Principals’ Service.
