Minister of National Dialogue Mano Ganeshan said the Police have been ordered to take action against anyone promoting extremism. He said that President Maithripala Sirisena had issued these instructions to the Police at a recent meeting.

The Minister said that the Police would obtain court orders against any group which attempted to stage a protest or rally which could promote extremism.

“We will not see what religion they belong to or if they have any political links. Action will be taken against them,” he said. Mano Ganeshan said that the Police would also act against anyone promoting extremism in the North and not just in the South. (Colombo Gazette)
