AGA divisions in the North upgraded

The government has decided to upgrade the 16 Assistant Government Agent divisions in the North as Divisional Secretariat Divisions so that people living in these areas could be provided better facilities and the Development work in these divisions could be expeditiously implemented.  

These 16 divisions cover all the 5 Districts of the Northern Province.

The government has taken this decision with the objective of providing facilities to the people of the North who had suffered for the last 30 years under the jackboots of the terrorists and also with the intention of providing them equal facilities currently being enjoyed by people in the other areas.

The Cabinet has approved a proposal made in this regard by the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs W.D.J. Seneviratne.

The AGA divisions that will be upgraded are AGA divisions of Delft. Kayts (North Island), Karainagar and Wadamarachchi East, in the Jaffna



District;  Kandawalai, Karachchui, Pachchilaipally and Punakari in the Kilinochchi District; Madhu and Manthai West, in the Mannar District; Vavuniya North in Vavuniya District; and Manthai East, Maritime Pattu, Pudukuduirrippu, Thunukkai and Oddusudan in the Mullaithivu District.
