The 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force was held yesterday at the Ratmalana Air Port, with a Guard of Honour for President Mahinda Rajapaksa. A commemoration stamp and a first day cover were presented to the President by Post and Telecommunication Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga. A new Rs. 1 coin issued to mark the occasion was also presented to the President by the Governor of the Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
An exhibition of armoured vehicles and weapons used during the last 60 years was also held at this occasion. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Post and Telecommunication Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga, Aviation Services Minister Priyankara Jayarathna, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonathilaka were also present. Several overseas Naval Chiefs also met President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
