Geoffrey Alagaratnam, PC announced today that he will not come forward for the post of President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
Commenting on the matter, Alagaratnam stated, “Initially I agreed to come forward, considering the issues relating to the independence of the Judiciary and the Rule of law, at this defining point of time.
“However, given the likelihood that several candidates may vie for the post, I decided not to contest the Presidency to ensure the Bar Association speaks with a single voice on these critical issues.”
