Aluthgama rebuilding operations in progress: Army

Major General UAB Madewala Commander Security Force Head Quarters West said this week that 112 houses and 33 shops have been completely renovated and handed over to their owners which were severely damaged during the communal riots in Aluthgama and Beruwala last July. Among the remaining houses and shops which are to be reconstructed, 99 houses and 30 shops are under rebuilding process. Further he said that remaining 19 shops will start reconstruction on receipt of feasibility report from the Central Engineering consultancy Bureau. (CECB) The Sri Lanka Army has been entrusted with the challenge together with Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force. During the unrest a total number of 211 houses and 82 shops were damaged.
