Sri Lanka Air Force has undertaken the reconstruction of the entrusted region of the Aluthgama which had been harshly damaged during the recent unrest, said Air Force Media Spokesperson Wing Commander Gihan Senaviratne while speaking at the media briefing held at the Media Centre yesterday.
In the meantime, Sri Lanka Army and Navy are also engaged in reconstructing work accordingly. According to the spokesperson, 12 commercial shops in Aluthgama, 15 shops in Bentara and 6 shops situated in Station Road will be reconstructed by the Air Force.
Further speaking, he stated that there are 38 shops and 75 houses have been identified as the damage cost is over Rs. 50 000.00 and there are 35 shops and 135 houses that have been estimated the damage is less than Rs. 50 000.00. In addition, Air force has appointed 3officers and 116 Airmen in order to accomplish the reconstruction work immediately, he added.
Meanwhile adding more information, the Army Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that, Army has appointed a special Board to supervise the project throughout. Reconstruction has been entrusted to the Army’s Western Command which performs under the purview of Maj. Gen Ubaya Madawala.
A short-term Army camp will be manned at Aluthgama despite the requests made by the residents to put up a permanent base camp, Army Spokesperson said.
He also noted that the cleaning work had started on 27 June and reconstruction was begun on 30th June. Further speaking he said that it would take nearly two weeks for minor repairs and major repair would take over 30 days.
Paying his gratitude to the masses in the area, mentioned that they are being immensely supporting to the work taking this as a national endeavor.
