Ambulances to get permission to travel on expressway toll-free

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says that a Cabinet Memorandum will be submitted to make the expressways toll-free for ambulances.

The Health Minister made this statement during a discussion with the officials at the Puttalam Base Hospital after an observation tour of the hospital on Monday.

The Puttalam hospital’s staff who were present at the discussion pointed out that ambulances use the expressway when transporting patients during emergencies and the medical officers travelling in the ambulance had to pay the expressway toll out of their own pockets. The Minister said a Cabinet paper would be submitted to make the expressway free for ambulances as a national policy and a final decision will be taken in this regard. (Colombopage)
