Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake was further remanded till 7 July by Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris yesterday after his bail application was rejected.

Submitting his bail application to the Court, his lawyers informed Senanayake had been recognised as a patient suffering from the first stages of cancer. Lawyer requested he has to be further diagnosed by his personal doctor, Specialist Chula Herath.

However, considering the requirement of medical examinations, Additional Magistrate ordered prison authorities to facilitate DIG Senanayake a Judicial Medical Officer to do his checkups and refused the bail application.

Senanayake was arrested in last month over an allegation of concealing information about the killing of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

Meanwhile, former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Perera also re-remanded yesterday along with Senanayake till 7 July by the Colombo Additional Magistrate. He was arrested over the same allegation.
