‘Ape Gama’ work to be promoted by Laksala

A group of artisans from ‘Ape Gama’ – a replica of the villages of yesteryear in Sri Lanka located in Battaramulla – met with Laksala Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board Chairman/CEO Hasitha Tillekeratne to discuss ways and means of further popularising their craft operations in this unique location. Visitors to ‘Ape Gama’ can witness the enthralling blend of meticulously handcrafted creations ranging from jewellery, batik, metal work,

handloom, beeralu, lace, etc. under one roof. The artisans who have a passion for their crafts spoke with confidence on their close relationship with Laksala, the marketing arm for their products. The Chairman offered immediate solutions to some of the difficulties hitherto faced by the artisans, which were appreciated by them. A refurbishment program of their crafts houses and an extensive publicity program through print and electronic media on the numerous activities at ‘Ape Gama’ were among some of the points discussed. The meeting was also attended by Ministry of Trade and Commerce Additional Secretary S.S.N. De Silva, Laksala Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board Executive Director S. Subairdeen, National Crafts Council (NCC) Chairman Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena and senior officials of Laksala and the National Crafts Council. The Additional Secretary also addressed the artisans.
