Army chief wants discipline

Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake yesterday urged his troops to maintain the highest levels of discipline among all ranks, safeguarding the reputation of the organization at all times. Speaking at the army headquarters during the New Year celebrations, the Army Commander said that the dedication and commitment of the soldiers had already borne fruit and received praise from the President and the Secretary of Defence. He said that a restructuring process is now underway in the organization following the end of the war and that measures have been taken in the past four years for the best interests of all ranks by way of a number of welfare projects. He also made some salutary remarks on the roles played by soldiers in the past by way of laying their precious lives, sacrifice of legs and limbs and fearless commitment to the service.
