Army scales down security points in Jaffna

The Sri Lanka Army has scaled down the number of security points manned by the Army, recently appointed Security Forces Commander for Jaffna, Major General Udaya Perera said. Quoting the new Jaffna Commander, the Ministry of Defence said the security points had been dismantled in consideration of the peaceful conditions prevailing in Jaffna. Maj. Gen. Perera said that steps would be taken to withdraw more except the camps considered essential to ensure security in the peninsular. The Jaffna Commander was addressing the local media following a pooja at the Mullian Unawaththi Amman Kovil of Veththilaikerny to invoke blessings on him upon his assuming duties as the Commander of Security Forces Jaffna.
