The draft bill for the establishment of a Metropolitan Authority to oversee the development work in the local government bodies in the Colombo City has been handed over to the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka.

Secretary of the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and Minister Susil Premajayantha has said that the proposed Authority would not hinder the powers vested with the local government bodies and its heads.

Premajayantha has observed that the bill to establish the Authority would be presented to parliament as soon as the Attorney General’s Department submits its recommendations.

Once the Authority is set up, it is to function under a commissioner who would work together with the respective local government bodies under it.
