Australian naval ship arrives on goodwill visit

Tge Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, welcomed an Australian naval ship which arrived on Friday at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit.

The Australian Naval Ship HMAS Melbourne (FFG 05) arrived at the port of Colombo on 21 February on a goodwill visit, the Navy said. The Commanding Officer of the Australian ship, Commander BJ Schligel paid a courtesy call on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Colombo. They have held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill. The 138-metre long HMAS Melbourne is an Adelaide Class guided missile frigate (FFG) with a displacement of 4,040 tons. The ship carries a complement of 26 officers and 195 sailors. The ship’s crew is scheduled to participate in a series of programs arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy to enhance the friendly relations between the two Navies during the ship’s stay in Sri Lanka.
