The Ukrainian captain of the controversial Avant Garde vessel Gennady Gavrilov, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Thursday night at the Galle Harbour, was remanded till 5 July after being produced at the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
The CID arrested him on the allegation of illegally importing firearms to Sri Lanka and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
He was detained at the Galle Harbour Police Station overnight after being arrested by the CID and produced before the Galle Magistrate on Friday morning.
