Basil opens new bus stand in Negombo

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa declared open the newly-constructed Negombo Bus stand yesterday. Rs. 220 million was spent on its construction by the Ministry of Economic Development and Negombo Municipal Council.

This three-storeyed bus stand can be considered the most modern public bus stand in Sri Lanka. Spread over 60,000 sq.ft, it boasts 78 shops, a public restaurant, office spaces, film hall and resting and waiting halls for passengers. Nearly 35,000 passengers use this bus stand daily. Deputy Minister of State Resources and Enterprise Development Sarath Gunarathna, Minister of Social Services Felix Perera, Minister of Public Affairs and Public Relations Mervyn Silva, Chief Minister of Western Province Prasanna Ranathunga, Deputy Minister of Indigenous Medicine Pandu Bandaranayake, Deputy Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Hosing and Common Amenities Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries Sarana Gunawardena, Deputy Minister of Disaster Management Dulip Wijesekara, Western Province Minister of Road Development, Housing and Constructions, Fisheries and Tourism Nimal Lanza, Member of Parliament Sudharshani Fernadopulle, Member of Parliament Ruwan Ranathunga and Member of Parliament Wasantha Senanayaka also participated at this occasion
