By Lakmal Sooriyagoda The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) had appointed a three-member committee to look into the legality of deploying armed forces to disperse protestors. The BASL sources said that issuing a gazette notice, the Government has authorised the deploying of security forces – Army, Navy and Air Force – to disperse protests instead of deploying the Police. A three-member committee headed by President’s Counsel Shrinath Perera had been appointed by the BASL to inspect the legality of the gazette notice which authorises the deploying the armed forces to quell protests. The final report of the committee is to be submitted before the BASL Executive committee within two weeks.
