BASL urges Govt to provide extra protection to lawyers

The Executive Committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka yesterday summoned an emergency meeting to denounce the attack on the home of its president Wijedasa Rajaapakshe MP and call for extra protection for lawyers in the country.



Speaking to Daily FT, BASL Secretary Sanjeewa Gamage said that the Executive Committee had unanimously adopted a resolution to unreservedly condemn the attack on Rajapakshe’s residence and urge authorities to launch a speedy inquiry and produce the suspects before court.

The Secretary added that the Executive Committee of the BASL had called on the Government to provide extra protection to ensure the security of the BASL President and other lawyers in the country. (DB)
