The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) has called on the Government to appoint a special commission to investigate the Aluthgama and Beruwala incidents. The BBS had been accused of instigating the attacks on Muslims in Aluthgama and Beruwala and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s loss at the election last week was in part attributed to his failure to prevent the attacks from taking place. BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero told reporters yesterday that while the BBS had backed Rajapaksa, the former Government had not given any form of assistance to the BBS.                               He rejected the view that Rajapaksa lost the election as a result of the actions of the BBS and urged the new Government to investigate the Aluthgama and Beruwala incidents through a special commission. Gnanasara Thero also said that the BBS has begun to receive threats over the telephone, especially from groups operating overseas. He also congratulated President Maithripala Sirisena and said they would closely monitor his actions and continue their own activities. (Colombo Gazette)
