Better paper, better world

The need for paper continues to exist even in the digital age, but carrying on with the current production practices threatens the planet’s remaining natural forests. While unsustainable logging by some businesses in the paper industry has lead to the diminishing of forests, such practices are noted to have long term negative impact on the environment. Having recognised the implications of such acts, Double A Pulp and Paper Company is one that ensures its processes are eco-friendly and encourages others in the industry to do the same. At a seminar organised by Double A in partnership with Metropolitan on the topic ‘Sustainability in Action, Better Paper, Better World’, Double A Senior Executive Vice President Thirawit Leetavorn stressed the need for corporations to take a step towards sustainability practices. “All corporations should take a positive action towards sustainability practices both in their production processes and the way in which they communicate with consumers. Consumers today are demanding products which are sustainable both socially and environmentally. Double A is an example of achieving both while delivering premium copy paper to consumers,” he told the seminar which had representation from over 100 corporations in Sri Lanka. To reduce logging of natural forests, Double A is produced using high quality fibre from farmed trees planted on unused lands between rice paddies on Khan-Na, Thailand. These trees are a sustainable source of pulp which is grown by more than 1.5 million farmers.  According to Leetavorn, this unique agro-forestry is noted to help alleviate poverty among Thai farmers through additional income, all while providing Double A with high quality fibre. “Double A is also self sufficient in water and renewable energy. Water is sourced from its own rainwater reservoir while renewable biomass energy is obtained from production waster such as tree barks and black liquor,” said Leetavorn to highlight the sustainable practices adopted by the company when manufacturing paper. Recognised as a leader in sustainable manufacturing, Double A’s policy of environmentally friendly milling operations ensures that its paper and all its products are produced with the perfect balance of product quality and environmental care. Its operations include the ‘cradle to mill gate’ lifecycle assessments, internationally recognised certifications, and advanced technology that are essential for the sustainable manufacture of pulp and paper.  Furthermore, Double A ensures that its environmental credentials are current, and works with NGOs in Thailand and overseas to support their environmental initiatives.  While making sure its products are manufactured with minimal environmental impact, Double A’s manufacturing process is founded on the use of raw materials it can cultivate, conserve and generate without interfering with nature and the neighbouring communities. Double A is a global leader in premium copy paper and is one of the most advanced fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturers in the world. Double A producers high performance, super smooth Double A paper which is available in more than 120 countries worldwide.
